He is known especially for his debut novel Madame Bovary (1857), his Correspondence, and his scrupulous devotion to his style and aesthetics. The celebrated short story writer <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/18791._Guy_de_Maupassant" title=" Guy de Maupassant" rel="nofollow noopener"> Guy de Maupassant</a> was a protégé of Flaubert.
