Author Description Isabella Fyvie Mayo was a Scottish poet, novelist, suffragist and reformer who also wrote under the pen name <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3283155.Edward_Garrett" title="Edward Garrett" rel="nofollow noopener">Edward Garrett</a>. Isabella was privately educated at a girls school near Covent Garden in London. She published poems and stories, using the pseudonym Edward Garrett. She spent most of her life in Aberdeen, where she was the first woman elected to a public board. Her works include: <i>The Occupations of a Retired Life</i> (1868), <i>By Still Waters</i> (1874), <i>Doing and Dreaming</i> (1876), <i>The Dead Sin and Other Stories</i> (1878), <i>Rab Bethune's Double</i>; or, <i>Life's Long Battle Won</i> (1894) and <i>Recollections</i> (1910).
