Author Description Lavinia Riker Davis (1906-1961) was the author of over forty books, published under her own name, and the pseudonym Wendell Farmer. She wrote picture-books, children's novels, and both juvenile and adult mysteries. She also wrote short stories, many of them published in children's magazines such as <i>St Nicholas</i>.<br /><br />Two of her picture-books, <u>Roger and the Fox</u> (1948) and <u>The Wild Birthday Cake</u> (1950), both illustrated by Hildegard Woodward, were Caldecott Honor Books.
