Author Description American writer and feminist <b>Julia Ward Howe</b>, (1819 -1910) was active in the abolitionist cause and the suffrage movement of women, wrote "<i> <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24951042.Battle_Hymn_of_the_Republic" title="Battle Hymn of the Republic" rel="nofollow noopener">Battle Hymn of the Republic</a> </i>" (1862) and edited <i>Woman's Journal</i> from 1870 to 1890. <br /><br />Julia Ward married Samuel Gridley Howe, a physician and reformer who had founded the Perkins School for the Blind.<br /><br />After her death, three of her daughters collaborated on a biography published in 1916. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography.<br /><br /><br /><br />
